Resident. Widespread and common throughout the British Isles, but more common in the south.

Lightly recorded across the county.

Wingspan :   M & F, 7-8mm.

Confusion species

Many species of Phyllonorycter are extremely similar, great care should be given when separating these species. It is often impossible to separate the adults of some species.

Habitat

Wherever the foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Hazel.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid on underside of leaf. Larva forms an elongate mine 15-20mm long, generally between the veins. Pupates in a white cocoon within the mine.
